A tribe is a group of self-sufficient people who share the same beliefs, culture, and language and live apart from mainstream society. However, there is also a group of people called isolated people or lost tribe because they have totally no contact with the outside world or global civilization.

There are over 100 uncontacted tribes around the world. In Asia, there is a tribe that has been living on the same island for 60,000 years — the Sentinelese tribe.

The North Sentinel Island, located on the Indian Ocean’s Bay of Bengal is just one of the 572 islands in the Andaman chain.

The Sentinelese are considered as the most isolated tribe in the world.

They are also regarded as the most dangerous because they kill anyone who tries to make contact with them!

When they see outsiders approaching, they gather near the shore while holding their javelins.

In fact, the Indian government has implemented a three-mile exclusion zone to protect outsiders.

The Sentinelese tribe rejects the outside world and any attempt to make contact with them has been repeatedly refused by this isolated group. In 2004, these people shot arrows at a helicopter that was sent to the island to do a relief operation after a tsunami.

In 2006, two fishermen were killed when their boat accidentally drifted towards the island. They were caught illegally fishing for mud crabs in the exclusion zone.

The Sentinelese tribe is the last isolated pre-Neolithic tribe in the world. There is no exact population count due to limited knowledge and research about the group but it is estimated that there are 40-500 Sentinelese in the island.

In the 80s and early 90s, many Sentinelese people were killed by armed salvage operators who were shipwrecked on the island.

Since then the group has remained undisturbed. According to Survival International, a human rights organization, the Sentinelese “directly descended from the first human populations to emerge from Africa, and have probably lived in the Andaman Islands for 60,000 years.” Survival International has been protecting the rights of these indigenous people.

According to sailors, the Sentinelese are cannibals. They are short (around 5 feet tall), black-skinned people whose origins are mysterious. A study, however, revealed that they may have originated from Africa which they have been separated from in 100,000 years.

The Sentinelese will probably remain isolated from the outside world forever.
