Have you ever walked into a clothing store, only to be frightened by a very scary mannequin? We’ve all been there! This scary story along with a myth is about a mannequin that will surely give you an eerie feeling!
In the middle of Chihuahua, Mexico, there is a famous bridal shop named “La Popular”. However, it’s not famous because of the bridal gowns they’re selling but because of its mannequin. For the past 75 years, a lifelike mannequin stood in the window store, but this dummy has a rather strange history behind it. According to local legends, the mannequin is actually the preserved corpse of the shop owner’s daughter. She was there because her mother decided to mummify her after she died on her wedding. No one knows how true the story was, but take a look at these pictures and decide for yourself.
“La Pascualita” or “Little Pascuala” nick named from its former owner Pascuala Esparza is a bridal mannequin first installed in the store window on March 25th, 1930.
Since then it has stood at the shop for quite a long time.
People simply could not take their sight away from this mannequin, with the wide-set glass eyes, real hair and blushing skin tone.
Soon, they realized that the mannequin closely resembled Pascuala’s daughter whose name has been lost to history.
It didn’t take long for the locals to suspect that the dummy was, in fact, a perfectly preserved corpse of the owner’s daughter, who had died tragically on her wedding day after being bitten by a Black Widow spider.
That’s how the urban legend started, Pascuala denied that the mannequin was her daughter.
But the rumor had already taken on a life of its own, and no one believed her.
Rumors about the living mannequin were also accompanied by supernatural happenings as well.
Several odd incidents have been reported around the dummy. It is said that a love-sick French magician would arrive at night and magically bring it to life, taking her out to town.
A few others believe that at night, La Pascualita sometimes shifted positions in the window, and her eyes followed them around the store.
These tales are pretty scary but none of those stories have been confirmed.
The dummy’s dress is changed twice a week behind closed curtains with only few close employees allowed to dress and undress her.
But even a worker at the shop named Sonia Burciaga said, “Every time I go near Pascualita my hands break out in a sweat. Her hands are very realistic and she even has varicose veins on her legs. I believe she’s a real person.” an account like this seems very believable.
For years, the story of La Pascualita has been drawing loads of visitors, including media personalities, from all over Mexico to Chihuahua. Now, people from all over the world have also started paying visits to the corpse bride trying to figure out if she is real or not. Of course, not everyone is convinced that La Pascualita is a corpse. Some say she may actually be a wax dummy, but most people taken in by her mesmerizing gaze and realistic-looking features walked away being convinced that she has to be real.
